My Boyfriend Faked His Death, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 11
My video spread fast.
Faster than I expected.
A few hours later, Kendra called me. Her voice was frantic.
“Avery, what the fuck did you post online? I’ll pay you. Take it down!”
I smiled. “I just told the truth.”
“Do you know how much damage you’ve caused me? Millions lost! Carter and I are fighting!” Kendra was unraveling. “Is this what you want? Revenge? For what? Money?”
“Name your price. Anything.” She sounded desperate.
I hung up.
Then Carter called.
I don’t know how they got my new number.
Even without caller ID, I recognized the digits.
He’d never changed his number.
Maybe he didn’t expect me to answer. Or to answer so fast.
The line went quiet. He breathed unevenly.
We stayed silent for almost a minute. Then I spoke.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
“Wait, Avery.” Carter’s voice cracked. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know… about what you told me back then. I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.”
“And the media. The trolls. All of it. It was just a joke. I could’ve explained…”
He sounded like he might be crying. “I didn’t know you went through so much.”
I paused. Then said flatly, “It’s in the past.”
Carter kept apologizing. Kept remembering the old days.
But in the end, he asked if I could forgive Kendra. Forgive both of them.
Take down the video. Post a reconciliation.
“She did wrong,” Carter said carefully. “But this backlash is insane. Everyone’s coming after her. She’s got exhibitions lined up next year. Brand deals. The penalties alone are millions.”
“And me? My job’s a mess. I was supposed to get promoted. Now people are doxxing us. Staring us down on the street. Posting creepshots online.”
I let him ramble.
Until he started repeating himself.
Then I asked, very calmly, “Carter, wasn’t that what happened to me?”
He had no idea. What I went through was so much worse.
“You want me to forgive Kendra. Forgive you. Save your careers. But who’s going to pay for my life?” My voice broke.
I hung up.
Blocked both numbers.
Forgive them? No chance.
I wanted them to feel everything I felt.
