My Coworker Asked About My Secret Husband, I Said Strangers Chapter 10
The rumors about Brandon and Elena disappeared overnight. No one dared bring them up anymore.
Once Liam had drafted the divorce papers, I brought it up with Brandon.
He came home, and I laid it all out. “Brandon, let’s get divorced. You know what they’re saying at work about you and Elena. If you’re still in love with her, you still have a chance.”
He narrowed his eyes, his gaze turning sharp. He gave a cold laugh. “Madison, I didn’t know you were this generous. Pushing your own husband toward someone else?”
I looked at him. “Brandon, there’s no point in arguing. Look over the divorce agreement.”
He didn’t look, just spoke slowly. “You want a divorce. Does my grandfather agree?”
I laughed. “Brandon, he’s your grandfather. And even if he didn’t agree, I’d still leave. I’ve already talked to him. He knows.”
His brow furrowed, and his expression went cold. “Why? Did you fall for that pretty boy?”
I was confused. What pretty boy?
His lips twisted. “The cologne you bought. It was a birthday present for him. You forgot my birthday but remembered another guy’s?”
I didn’t dance around it. “His name is Liam Turner. He’s my friend’s boyfriend. Stop making things up.”
Brandon tossed the divorce papers onto the table like they didn’t matter. “I won’t agree to the divorce.”
My voice turned bitter. “Brandon. Do you want to know why?”
His expression darkened.

“You never tried to hide your history with Elena, but you never told me she was your ex either.”
“You gave her an internal referral and placed her at Apex. Did you ever think how humiliating it would be for me, hearing those rumors at work?”
Brandon’s brow creased. “I never gave her an internal referral to Apex. I helped her, yes. I passed along her portfolio. I made an introduction. That’s all.”
“Her coming to Apex… that rainy day, I went to pick you up from work. You said you were working late. I ran into her, she didn’t have an umbrella, so I gave her a ride home.”
“That’s it. That’s all. I didn’t get close to her. I stayed out of the umbrella entirely and got soaked just to avoid any appearance of impropriety.”
“Chris told me someone from your office took pictures. That’s how the rumors started.”
“I was trying to keep my distance. How did that turn into me getting soaked just to hold an umbrella over her?”
I gave a bitter laugh. “Brandon, you have so many excuses. If you didn’t act that way, there wouldn’t be so many misunderstandings.”
“And then there was that night, you beat up Kyle Peterson to protect her. That spread through the whole company.”
Brandon laughed softly, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “More gossip from your coworkers?”
“I didn’t do that to protect her. Everyone there knows Kyle took a photo up her skirt. When she confronted him, he hit her.”
“I stepped in because it was the right thing to do. Not because she’s my ex.”
He refused to sign, of course. We stayed stuck like that for two weeks.
