My Ex Walked Into My Flowershop After I Faked My Death Chaptre 05

He stepped inside in one motion and kicked the two bodyguards holding me away.

“GET OFF HER!”

He pulled me into his arms automatically, his whole body shaking.

“Elara… it’s you. It’s really you…”

It was strange. He was soaking wet, but his chest still burned.

But Kael, my heart was already frozen. You can’t warm it back up.

I ignored his breakdown, pushing through the pain in my hand to shove him away. I screamed desperately.

“Save Jax! Kael, save our son first-”

Kael jolted. He immediately pulled out his phone and dialed his assistant, Eliot Pierce.

“Track every car registered under Lila Carter! Use every resource! I want his location in three minutes! If anything happens to him, you’r all fired!”

Minutes later, Eliot sent a location.

I grabbed his phone, blood still streaked across my face, and ran for the door.

A hand caught my wrist.

The touch made us both freeze.

Kael’s expression was torn. His voice was low and firm.

“You’re not walking there. Get in my car.

Before we left, he glanced at Lila with cold disappointment.

“I want an explanation for this.”

Fifteen minutes later, the car pulled up to an abandoned parking lot by the ocean.

The door opened. Jax threw himself into my arms.

“Mommy!”

His throat was raw from crying. He was cold and terrified, his tiny body shaking violently.

I held him tight, sobbing uncontrollably.

Beside us, Kael’s eyes glistened. His face was a mess of emotion.

Grief, relief, joy rolled into one.

He reached out, trying to touch Jax’s hair.

“Jax, it’s okay, I’m- Jax flinched away immediately.

“Go away!”

He buried his face in my chest, staring at Kael with those same Thorne eyes, full of fear.

“You’re a bad man! Your wife locked me in the car! I hate you!”

Kael’s hand hung in the air. His face went paper–white. He swayed unsteadily.

He forced a pained smile and knelt down to meet Jax’s eyes.

“I’m sorry on her behalf. I’m SO sorry I scared you.”

Maybe it was his gentle tone. Maybe it was the bond between father and son.

Jax relaxed a little, but he still stayed hidden in my arms, wary.

Kael sighed and drove us to the hospital, booking a VIP room.

He got the best doctor to bandage my hand, then tucked Jax into bed.

After the long night, the boy fell asleep at once.

The room fell silent, just the two of us, staring at each other with heavy hearts.

Kael still wore his wet clothes. Water dripped onto the floor, but he didn’t seem to notice.

He walked slowly toward me and knelt at my feet, looking up at me.

His gaze traced every inch of my face.

This face had been licked by flames, nearly scarred for life.

After reconstructive surgery and skin grafts, my bright, striking features were gone.

In their place–a plain, stiff face.

His hand trembled as he lifted it, like he wanted to touch my cheek.

“Did it hurt?”
