My Ex Walked Into My Flowershop After I Faked My Death Chaptre 06

I turned my head slightly, avoiding his touch.

I looked at his tortured fate and let out a short, bitter laugh.

“Don’t touch me, Kael. This face is full of implants. I can’t afford to fix them if they break.”

All color drained from his face.

“Elara, don’t talk to me like that. Please…”

“How am I supposed to talk?”

I smiled at myself.

“Look at me. I’m not the spoiled Carter heiress anymore. I’m not the confident model on the runway.”

I pointed to my face, then to my body, worn thin from childbirth and years of hard work.

“I’m a woman who died once. A single mom with a plain face and a ruined voice. The Elara you knew is dead.”

“No! NO!”

Kael cut me off, shaking his head frantically, grabbing my hands.

“It’s all my fault..I hurt you. I’m terrible. I got careless… but I never loved anyone else. Not for one single day.”

I scoffed. The man in front of me was pathetic and ridiculous.

“Tell me this, then. Who slept with Lila while I was overseas?“.

“Who ran from the fire with her, leaving me to burn alive?”

“Who agreed to marry her half a month after thinking I was dead?”

“Who spent five years wrapped up with her, got her pregnant?”

I fired four questions at him in one breath. Then I felt tired, like it was all meaningless.

I didn’t care about him. I cared about the heart I’d given away so freely.

I was bitter.

I’d grown up loved, raised to be honest and open.

I’d given Kael and Lila everything I had, thinking they’d treat me the same way I treated them.

Kael stared at me, dumbfounded. After a long pause, he spoke quietly.

“I never knew you suffered so touch… Lila told me you died in the fire. But a part of me always hoped it wasn’t true.”

His voice grew more urgent, thick with tears.

“So I fought to delay the wedding as long as I could. I convinced both families to let me wait five full years.”

“I told them I needed five years to accept it, to convince myself you were really gone.”

I pulled my hand away in annoyance.

“Why are you telling me this?”

Kael froze mid–confession, his face falling.

“I…”

“Did you not hear me? Kael, I don’t apore.”

“When my skin was burning, I only thought about surviving.”

“When I found out I was pregnant with Jax, I only thought about giving birth and raising him well.”

“Not one single minute of these five years was spent on you.”

I was lying.

In those five years, I’d remembered his good side. I’d secretly wondered what it would be like to see him again.

But that was all in the past.

The Elara now had truly cut him out of her life.

Kael stayed kneeling for a long, quiet moment. Then he stood shakily.

Before he left the room, he said only two things.

“Wait for me. I’ll make Lila pay for what she did.”

“And… I never forgot my promise.”

Promise? Which one?

That he’d love me forever? That he’d marry no one but me?

He’d broken both.
