My Husband’s Double Love for Me and My Best Friend Chapter 07

Attorney Holt reached

Sebastian had barely reached his father when the older man’s hand shot out, catching him across the cheek with a crack

that silenced the nearby chatter. Sebastian stood frozen, the sting radiating across his face.

“Ridiculous! What day is it today. Mr. Montgomery roared. You didn’t bring Lena-instead you brought this… this thing!”

He hung his head, daring not to speak.

Seeing the situation, Chloe stepped in front of him, caressing her swollen belly and saying:

“Uncle, that’s not fair, she said. I’m carrying the Montgomery heir-by right. I deserve to be here.”

A low murmur of disapproval rippled through the crowd, the sound of a dozen hushed conversations sparking to life at

once.

“What a disgrace! A homewrecker crashing the party, and she’s pregn@nt!”

“Is Mr. Montgomery getting a divorce, someone whispered. Ungrateful and heartless!”

“Didn’t the Carter family and Ms. Lena help him so much back then, another added. He’s completely forgotten!”

Whirling around, Chloe jabbed a finger toward the closest cluster of guests. All pretense of composure vanished, replaced

by the raw fury of a cornered animal. “How dare you!”

“What nonsense are you talking about! I’ll be Mrs. Montgomery soon, she screamed. That childless woman Lena has no

right to hold onto him!”

The elders shook their heads and pointed at her disapprovingly.

Sebastian grabbed her arm, his voice low: That’s enough, Chloe, he said. Do you think this is a market?”

She wrenched herself free from him, yelling:

“Why can’t I speak my mind, she shouted. The one who’s not loved is the third wheel! She can’t even have a baby-how

dare she cling to the Montgomerys!”

*All Lena does is hold favors over people’s heads, she spat. She’s the shameless one!”

Slap.

I walked up to her and slapped her hard across the face, then wiped my hands in disgust

“Chloe, have you no shame at all, I said.”

The moment she saw me, she froze, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Her voice trembling: “Y-you… how are you still alive!”

Sebastian’s burning gaze fell on me, and he spoke slowly:

“Lena, today’s father’s birthday, he said. Stop fooling around and apologize to Chloe.”

I looked at him. let out a sneer, and stepped closer:

“Mr. Montgomery, cheating must have addled your brain, I said. We have nothing to do with each other anymore-what

right do you have to order me around?”

At that, a flash of panic crossed Sebastian’s eyes, but he quickly regained his composure:

“What are you talking about, he said. There’s a limit to throwing tantrums. We’re still husband and wife.”

Attorney Holt beside me handed me the divorce papers. I slammed them in Sebastian’s face:

“Husband and wife? We got divorced a long time ago, I said. From now on, we’re strangers for the rest of our lives.”

He bent down to pick up the papers, opening them in a panic.

His brows furrowed tightly. He grabbed my wrist roughly, his voice sharp:

“Lena Carter, you were serious about these papers! I don’t agree to this divorce!”

A strong hand pushed him away. pulling me behind a protective figure.

*Show some respect, Mr. Montgomery, Elias said. Don’t lay a hand on my fiancée.”

The moment Elias appeared, all eyes in the room fixed on him. Whispers erupted:

“Elias King! The heir who controls New York’s entire business circuit!”

“Fiancée? Could it be the Kings and Carters are forming an alliance, someone gasped. Then what does the Montgomery

family count for!”

That heartbreaker deserved to be dumped long ago, another praised, Ms. Lena is truly smart and decisive!”

Sebastian met Elias’s sharp gaze, his momentum faltering:

“What nonsense are you talking about, he said. She’s my wife.”

“She’s not, Elias replied flatly.”

The atmosphere dropped to freezing point.

Chloe let out a sneering laugh, mocking me: “Lena, you’ve been watching too much female lead drama, haven’t you, she

said. Fantasizing about divorcing and starting a new life-but who’d want a used woman like you!

This time, the slap was not an act of rage, but a punctuation. “You seem to be laboring under a misconception, Chloe.” I

said, my voice carrying clearly in the silent room. “Look at me. Really look. And understand who it is you’re addressing

“Let me correct you, I added. I’m not fantasizing about being a female lead-I already am.”

“I was born under the stars, spoiled with endless love, I said. I’ll thrive no matter who I’m with. But you? Chasing

happiness by stealing other people’s men-you’ll never be truly happy.”

Her words left her tongue-tied. She stamped her feet in anger.
