The Alpha Princess They Destroyed Chapter 06 (Continue)

From where I floated in midair, I saw everything clearly.

After the gasoline ignited, the flames had wrapped around me and torn me apart.

But there had been no pain.

The system told me I could leave at any moment.

It asked whether I wanted to stay and watch what happened to them.

I had said yes, and so I remained here, invisible.

Watching Liam lose his mind like this, I couldn’t understand it.

Why?

If I disappeared, no one would ever gossip about Zoe again or cause him any trouble.

Wasn’t that what he wanted?

Then why did he look so grief-stricken, so panicked, like something irreplaceable had been ripped out of him?

Even Zoe was startled, lunging after him and grabbing him just as he reached the staircase.

Then she screamed at the servants nearby, “Get over here! Now!”

With several people working together, they managed to drag him back outside the estate.

And the last thing he saw before being forced out was my room collapsing inward.

“Ember!”

Once outside, Liam’s face had gone deathly pale.

Zoe watched from beside him.

She narrowed her eyes, jealousy and unease battling across her face.

But beneath both lurked something crueler. She wanted me to burn to death and burn so completely that not even ashes would remain.

If nothing was left, then Liam would belong to her alone.

At the thought, the corner of her mouth lifted before she caught herself.

Beside her, his face was white as paper.

“My pack house is on fire! Get people here now!”

He shouted the words into the phone, then hung up and stared at the blazing mansion without blinking, like his own chest was caving in.

Not long after, the Gamma fire unit arrived and brought the flames under control.

All that remained was smoke, ash, and blackened ruin.

Liam rushed inside, muttering as he searched, “Where is she…”

“Ember, I’m here. Don’t be scared.”

He ran to the second floor and shoved open the door to my burned room.

There was nothing at all.

“Ember…” he whispered into the empty space.

Then something seemed to occur to him.

His eyes flickered wildly, as if he were trying to comfort himself.

“No…”

“Ember’s smart. If she saw the fire, she would’ve run, right? Maybe she just passed out somewhere outside!”

The firefighters entered with him. Professionals that they were, they immediately picked up the scent of gasoline.

I lowered my eyes and let out a bitter, mocking smile.

The only reason I hadn’t killed myself in those years was because I had to survive long enough to complete the twenty-five-year mission.

Otherwise, no one could have endured that kind of life.

Now that I could leave, I had wanted nothing more.

Liam searched the room while speaking, “I can’t find her…” Then his eyes suddenly lit up. “If there’s no body, then maybe she’s still alive!”

The captain didn’t answer.

He only looked steadily at the brittle blackened patch under Liam’s feet, pity in his eyes.

“Alpha,” he said quietly, “the place you’re standing on right now… that’s the remains of a burned skeleton.”

Liam had clung to hope shuddered.

His eyes emptied out.

Slowly, mechanically, he lowered his head and saw the white fragments buried beneath the scorched earth.

His mind went blank.

The whole world seemed to tilt.

Then his knees gave way, and he collapsed beside my remains.
