They Bullied The CEO’s Daughter Without Knowing Who I Was Chapter 08
Mom got there before the rescue.
She’d seen the livestream and chartered a helicopter from the set.
She hugged me tightly. “Paige, who did this to you?”
I barely whispered the name. “Amber.”
Mom’s eyes turned red. She swore to make Amber pay.
After seeing Nolan out, Amber came back to find two rows of bodyguards on the floor.
A friendly coworker texted her that Vivienne had arrived.
She ran to the bathroom to touch up her makeup. She wanted to face her “rival” looking her best.
Mom carried me out of the supply closet and wrapped her coat around my face so no one could see.
Amber put on a sugary voice, acting like the hostess. “Ms. Ashford, what an honor—”
Slap!
Mom backhanded her.
“You hit me?” Amber tried to fight back.
Mom didn’t give her the chance. She kicked her to the ground.
Amber lay there pitifully. “You can’t do this! This is Caldwell Group. I’m Mr. Caldwell’s secretary.”
Mom laughed coldly. “You mess with me, you get the horns. Even Reid Caldwell himself—I’d knock him flat too.”
She wasn’t kidding. At home, she had Dad wrapped around her finger.
“Call the cops! I want a medical exam!” Amber clutched her stomach, wailing.
Mom didn’t flinch. She told her to go ahead.
She even had someone bring her a chair.
Amber finally realized Mom was serious. And no one was helping her.
She scrambled to her feet and saw me behind Mom.
Amber understood. “You hit me because of her?” Her lip curled. “What—she your secret love child or something?”
Mom raised her hand in fury. Amber cowered. “Hit me again and Mr. Caldwell will destroy you!”
“Famous actress attacks someone! Film it! Post it everywhere!”
I quickly begged Mom to stop.
Mom sighed and pulled me close. “My baby is too soft. Today, let me teach you. Against someone like this, you hit back hard.”
Amber suddenly screamed, “You can’t hit me! I’m pregnant! With Mr. Caldwell’s baby!”
Mom’s face went cold. She almost smiled.
Then she kicked Amber in the stomach again.
She gave the order. “Trash this place.”
The bodyguards went to work. I knew that look. Mom was truly furious.
Employees trembled.
Someone told Mom to stop. Going against big money could get an actress blacklisted.
Mom laughed out loud.
“My last name is Ashford. The Ashford family. As in the richest family in the country.”
Everyone went silent.
The family worth seven or eight times more than Caldwell Group.
The whole floor got destroyed. Amber crawled on the ground.
Then Nolan came back and saw the scene. He stood frozen, unable to look away.
He walked over slowly.
Amber, seeing her savior, crawled to him. “Mr. Chase, save me.”
Nolan pushed her aside and grinned at Mom. “Aunt Vivienne, what are you doing here?”
That one word shattered all the lies.
Amber’s face went white.
She stammered, “Mr. Chase, you’re wrong. Isn’t Reid Caldwell your uncle? And he’s not married!”
Nolan snapped, “Who said my uncle isn’t married? He has a kid and—” He saw me. “Paige? What are you doing here?”
I pulled the coat off my face.
“Nolan, she hit me.”
I pointed at Amber. Amber laughed bitterly and rushed to explain. “She stole confidential files! And she deleted your email—”
Mom didn’t ask me. She stared at Amber.
“You say she stole files. Where are they? On her? You say she deleted emails. Then let’s check the surveillance footage.”
Amber rambled. “She must have hidden the files.”
Obviously, I had nowhere to hide a file. The places I’d been had nothing.
The security footage showed me quietly waiting for Dad. Amber’s computer showed deletion records. I’d recovered the deleted emails from her trash folder.
Amber still argued. “She used my computer to delete them! That’s how I knew!”
I shouted, “I didn’t!”
“You falsely accused me, stole my mom’s necklace, hit me, and made me pay you.”
“That’s because you didn’t have a badge—” Amber caught herself. “I didn’t steal your necklace.”
Mom sent someone to search Amber’s desk. Amber screamed she had no right.
When they found the necklace, Amber shut up completely.
“You even fined my daughter?” Mom’s voice was ice.
Amber blamed Stacy.
My head cleared. I argued, “You knew I wasn’t an employee. I showed you my school ID.”
Mom had Stacy brought in.
Amber shook, biting her nails.
Stacy guessed what was happening and claimed total ignorance. Amber acted alone.
Amber shrieked at her cousin. “Stacy, you told me to find an intern to take the fall! Don’t turn on me now!”
