Why the Mafia’s Wife Kills Chapter 15

Life went back to normal after Paris.

My studio did well.

I picked up several orders and stayed busy.

Lucius was busy too,

but he called me every day.

Sometimes he came to the studio and we had dinner together.

We acted like any other couple-dating, going to movies,

holding hands while shopping.

Quiet, but peaceful.

Then one day at the mall, I ran into Dante and Freya.

They were picking out rings at a jewelry store.

Freya still wore a glove on her right hand,

but a diamond ring glittered on her left ring finger.

It wasn’t huge, but it sparkled.

Dante saw me first. He froze.

Freya followed his gaze.

Her face paled. She shrank behind him.

I tried to walk past like I didn’t see them,

but Dante walked over.

“Simone.” he said.

“Haven’t seen you in a while.”

“Mm.” I nodded, ready to leave.

He looked at Lucius beside me.

“You two… together now?”

“Yes.” I said naturally.

Dante’s eyes dimmed, but he recovered quickly.

“Congratulations.”

“Thanks.”

I took Lucius’s arm and tried to leave.

“Simone.”

Dante called me again.

“Can we talk? Alone?”

I looked at Lucius. He nodded.

“I’ll wait over there.”

Dante said something to Freya.

She reluctantly walked away.

We stood alone in the crowded mall.

“How have you been?” Dante asked.

“Good.” I said.

“Heard you opened a studio. Congratulations.”

“Thanks.”

“Freya…” Dante hesitated.

“She’s pregnant.”

I froze for a second, then smiled.

“Congratulations. You’re going to be a father.”

Dante looked at me, his expression complicated.

“Simone, I…”

“You don’t have to say anything.”

I cut him off.

“It’s all in the past.

You have your life now. I have mine.

We’re even.”

Dante opened his mouth like he wanted to say more,

but nothing came out.

“Oh, right.” I said.

“I’ll be at the shareholders’ meeting next month.

I’m a shareholder now, after all.”

Dante’s face shifted. “You’re coming?”

“Of course.” I smiled.

“Twenty percent isn’t a small number.

I need to check how my money’s doing.”

“Simone, don’t…”

“Don’t what?” I raised an eyebrow.

“It’s my stock. I can come if I want.

If you don’t want to see me, don’t come.”

Dante said nothing.

“I’ll go now if there’s nothing else.”

I turned and walked back to Lucius.

He was waiting on a bench nearby.

He stood when he saw me.

“Finished talking?”

“Mm.” I linked my arm through his.

“Let’s go. I’m hungry.”

“What do you want to eat?”

“French escargots.” I said.

“The kind we had in Paris.”

“Okay.”

We walked toward the exit.

I could feel Dante’s eyes on me the whole time.

But I didn’t look back.
