But the rogue’s testimony conflicted with mine.

They wanted me to give another statement.

Out of humanitarian concern, it was arranged at the hospital.

The process would take a while, and Ryan would be waiting outside anyway.

I told Ryan to go pay respects to Paige—a small gesture of thanks for donating her heart to me.

Ryan left.

The statement began.

Unexpectedly, the rogue didn’t mention a word about Kate’s crimes—no murder-for-hire, no extortion. Not a single accusation.

Instead, he claimed full responsibility himself.

Everything I knew, my statement, suddenly felt like a deliberate falsehood.

I stuck to the truth I knew.

The police said nothing, just told me to rest once it was over.

IV done.

Evening had fallen.

The hospital corridors were mostly empty.

I asked around and made my way to Kate’s room.

Not surprisingly, Nathan was there too.

Kate was awake, visibly agitated when she saw me.

Nathan immediately stepped forward to calm her. “It’s okay, Kate. It’s okay.”

Kate, acting all dramatic, started throwing accusations at me.

“Why are you saying I hired that rogue to kill? We were both victims! And I suffered worse than you. And the worst part—you’re saying I killed my own sister! Alpha, do you believe her?”

Nathan’s expression turned serious. He shook his head slowly. “I don’t.”

Seeing Nathan’s reaction, Kate grew bolder.

“Scarlet,” she snapped at me, “I’m starting to think you sent the rogue yourself.”

Kate had no shame, as usual. I couldn’t resist hitting back.

“If I’d sent the rogue, it wouldn’t have stopped at assault. You’d have been raped repeatedly… and killed.”

Kate’s eyes went wide.

She struggled to stand, yelling, “I’ll kill you!”

The medical monitor began beeping frantically.

Nathan tried to calm Kate while pushing me back. “What are you doing? If you have nothing to say, step out. Kate can’t handle the stress right now.”

“I do have something to say.”

Tomorrow I was leaving.

After being deceived for three years, of course, I was going to give Nathan a parting gift—one he would never forget.

With Nathan keeping Kate calm, she spoke, almost boasting, “You know what, Scarlet Wren? Alpha’s going to bond with me as his mate.”

Nathan’s eyes met mine— full of sorrow.

He forced a bitter smile.

Given Kate’s situation, it was really not easy for her to find someone. Nathan marrying her was his way of taking full responsibility.

Still… whatever happened between them was none of my concern now.

I replied indifferently, “Oh, congratulations.”

I stepped closer to Kate, locking eyes with her.

A second later, I initiated hypnosis.

“Kate… confess. Tell the truth about your plots to kill your sister—and me.”

Kate hesitated, then began recounting everything.

Nathan’s breathing grew heavier.

By the time Kate finished, Nathan could barely stand.

He leaned against the wall, utterly lost, gasping for air.

Kate ventured softly, “Alpha?”

Only to be met with Nathan’s hysterical outburst. “Why? Why?! Why would you kill Paige? And why hurt Scarlet?!”

Kate’s tears fell like rain. She pointed at me, pleading, “No, Alpha! Scarlet… she made me say this! She controlled me! I didn’t kill my sister!”

Nathan’s gaze swung between us.

For a long moment, he didn’t know who to believe.
