Erasing Alpha’s Memories and Love Chapter 08
I used the last of my patience to explain to that idiot.
“I’m a senior psychological consultant. I use hypnosis. Hypnosis brings out what’s buried deep in someone’s subconscious—it doesn’t make them invent lies. Everything Kate said… it’s all true. The things she’s been hiding deep down, she had no choice but to say. Whether you believe me or not… that’s up to you.”
Nathan stared at me. I didn’t flinch, met his gaze squarely.
After a long pause, he asked, “So… that day at home… you hypnotized me too?”
I nodded.
Nathan let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh.
“No wonder… you said you were a stand-in, Scarlet. Maybe I could never forget Paige deep down, but right now… the one I love is you.”
He got down on one knee in front of me. “Scarlet… I love you. Can I… hug you one more time?”
I laughed at the absurdity. By now, it was too late for words.
His eyes burned with hate as he looked at Kate. “How can you be so cruel? That’s your own sister! I’m going to report you to the police!”
“Go ahead! Do you even have proof?”
Kate smirked, fearless.
Hypnosis didn’t count as evidence—otherwise, the cops would’ve already thrown her in jail.
Nathan’s entire body radiated lethal anger as he stepped toward her. “I won’t marry you. I’ll send you to the Obedience Den… and you’ll stay there for the rest of your life.”
Kate’s bravado evaporated. “No! You can’t do this, Nathan! You promised my sister you’d take care of me! You can’t lie to her! Nathan, you can’t break your word!”
“Kate!” Nathan roared, scaring her into silence.
He grabbed her by the throat. “You have no right to mention your sister. You will never compare to her!”
I watched Kate’s face contort as she choked, her tongue practically hanging out.
I just stood there, watching the show. If she suffocated, so be it—one less nuisance in the world.
But then, perhaps because karma was patient, the police arrived, responding to the commotion.
They pulled Nathan off Kate.
Kate laughed, a terrifying sound. “My sister! She was always better than me at everything. Everyone loved her and not me… but she died young! She left too soon! Otherwise, she’d have seen her refined Alpha losing his temper! Ha-ha!”
Nathan struggled under the cops’ grip like a trapped beast, clawing at Kate—but never even touched her.
I stepped out of the room.
Ryan was waiting, holding a bouquet.
“How long have you been here?” I asked.
“Not long,” he said, then handed me the flowers.
They were my favorite—Casa Blanca lilies.
Three years ago, when I was discharged after my heart transplant, Ryan had given me the same bouquet.
I lifted it to my nose and inhaled, instinctively.
Then we left for Paris together.
We stayed in Paris for a while until an uninvited guest appeared.
Nathan, gaunt and exhausted, showed up in front of me.
“Scarlet… I finally found you. Come back with me, okay?”
I pointed to the river outside the café.
“You can stay in there for ten hours, and then I’ll think about it.”
Without a word, Nathan jumped in.
The crowd grew, some calling the police—but Nathan didn’t come out. His lips turned blue from the cold, but he stayed submerged.
We had a meal, watching him flail like a ridiculous clown.
Under Nathan’s gaze, I kissed Ryan lightly.
Then I shouted at the river, “You stay in there. I’m checking into a hotel.”
Nathan thrashed, veins popping, trying to climb out.
I shoved him back. “Not ten hours. You get no more chances.”
I held Ryan’s hand, walking until we were out of Nathan’s line of sight before letting go.
Ryan asked seriously, “Are we really going to check in a hotel?”
I punched him lightly. “Of course we’re going to Australia for the next task!”
