He Lent Her My Cullinan, I Canceled His Family’s Cards Chapter 03
Early the next morning, loud clanging and banging downstairs jolted me awake.
The household staff all knew I was a light sleeper. None of them would ever make this much noise.
I came downstairs to find the whole Drake family gathered there.
A familiar figure was bustling around the kitchen. It was Lindsay.
The moment she saw me, she flashed a bright, sweet smile.
“Good morning, Mrs. Drake. Breakfast will be ready in just a minute.”
I frowned instantly.
Savannah crossed her arms and sauntered over.
“Juliette, you should learn from Lindsay.”
“Look how thoughtful she is. She actually gets up early to make breakfast for Nicholas.”
I looked at her. “How much does Nicholas pay her? And how much does he pay me?”
Savannah choked on her words. “You…”
Lindsay carefully carried a large bowl of soup to the table.
“Mrs. Drake, if you don’t know how to cook, I’d be happy to teach you.”
She smiled innocently. “After all, you’re a stay-at-home wife. Taking care of your husband should be your job.”
Her gaze drifted toward the window.
“Oh, and that Phantom parked outside belongs to you, right?”
“Mr. Drake really spoils you. Buying you such an expensive car.”
Her voice was filled with apparent admiration.
“I honestly envy you, having such a wonderful husband.”
“I’ve never been as lucky as you. Everything I have, I’ve earned myself.”
Savannah immediately jumped in.
“Exactly! You’ve been part of this family for three years, and we’ve never eaten a single meal you’ve cooked.”
Margaret nodded in agreement.
“She’s right. Juliette, I really hate to say this, but as Nicholas’s wife, you just don’t measure up.”
I laughed softly. “So who do you think does qualify? Lindsay?”
The room went dead silent.
I went on, calm and even. “She’s certainly better at waiting on people.”
“She gets up at the crack of dawn to make you all breakfast, hangs on your every word, and knows exactly how to keep you happy.”
My gaze swept across the room.
“But can she give each of you a no-limit card to spend however you want?”
“Can she put you up in a mansion like this?”
“Can she buy you luxury cars and hire you drivers so you never have to lift a foot?”
Each question hit harder than the last.
Margaret’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
Even Lindsay froze, still holding a plate of food.
I walked over and stopped beside her.
“You seem to have misunderstood something.”
My voice stayed calm, but every word landed with precision.
“I’m not the kind of stay-at-home wife who relies on a man for money.”
“If you’d spent even few minutes learning about the Ashford family, you wouldn’t be standing here making a fool of yourself.”
Lindsay’s face fell. She clearly hadn’t expected me to fight back.
Walter suddenly slammed his palm on the table. The sharp crack echoed through the room.
“Enough! This is outrageous!”
“The way you talk, it’s like our whole family leeches off you!”
I turned to him. “Walter, if that’s how you feel, then perfect.”
“From now on, don’t use any Ashford family cards.”
Walter’s face turned red instantly.
I took a seat at the table and picked up one of the sandwiches Lindsay had made.
I took one bite and set it down. “Not very good. Doesn’t even come close to our chef’s.”
I dabbed my lips with a napkin.
“If all of you enjoy Lindsay’s cooking so much, then have her make breakfast every day.”
“The chef’ll only be preparing mine from now on.”
Savannah rolled her eyes. “You really should be worried, Juliette.”
“Lindsay’s younger than you, prettier than you, and way more caring.”
“Keep acting this ungrateful, and don’t be surprised when Nicholas dumps you.”
I finally turned to Nicholas.
He’d stayed silent the whole time—just watching, waiting, like none of this had anything to do with him.
I met his eyes. “You want a divorce?”
“Fine. Bring me the divorce papers. I’ll sign them right now.”
