He Lent Her My Cullinan, I Canceled His Family’s Cards Chapter 04
Nicholas immediately shot Savannah a warning look.
Then he walked behind me and began massaging my shoulders.
“Honey, don’t be mad. Savannah’s just a kid—don’t take anything she says to heart.”
He tried to smooth things over.
“Come on, everyone. Let’s eat before breakfast gets cold.”
The moment everyone sat down, Lindsay put on a guilty look.
“Mr. Drake, I feel terrible about Mrs. Drake’s car.”
She lowered her head. “My driving’s just awful. How can I be this bad at it?”
Nicholas smiled patiently. “It’s fine. You just need more practice. Every good driver started out bad.”
Lindsay sighed softly. “But your company car’s for business, and there’s nothing else I can practice with.”
She glanced at me. “I really liked Mrs. Drake’s Phantom, but I doubt she’d want to lend it to me now.”
I set down my coffee.
“If you already know I won’t lend it to you, don’t bring it up.”
Then I looked at Nicholas.
“By the way, honey, you still haven’t paid me back for the Cullinan.”
“If I don’t see the money, I might just sue your little secretary.”
The smile on Nicholas’s face stiffened.
A second later, he forced a laugh.
“Honey, have I ever shortchanged you?”
“As soon as this month’s dividends come in, I’ll transfer the money to you right away.”
Savannah smirked. “Nicholas’s company has been killing it these past two years.”
“We’re about to lock in another round of funding and go public.”
She looked at me with undisguised arrogance.
“So don’t act like you’re the only reason this family matters.”
“Even without you, we’d still be part of high society.”
Then she turned to Nicholas. “Nicholas, go to the bank and get new cards for everyone.”
“We don’t need Juliette’s cards. Even if she begs us to use them later, we shouldn’t.”
I almost laughed.
Without the Ashford family’s backing, Nicholas’s company would’ve gone under years ago. But the Drakes never understood that.
Without me, they were nothing—just vermin scrabbling at the bottom of the barrel.
“I’m meeting a friend at Willow Haven Spa today. Don’t wait for me for dinner.”
After leaving the house, I contacted a private investigator.
Lindsay’s intentions were painfully obvious. She wanted my place.
And Nicholas knew exactly what she wanted—he just played dumb. He clearly enjoyed being fawned over.
They were two of a kind. Both disgusting.
Later that afternoon, while my friend and I were getting facials at Willow Haven Spa, my phone suddenly buzzed.
A purchase notification. $1.2 million. Veridian Auto Gallery.
The amount was way too familiar—exactly the price of a new Phantom.
My expression darkened.
I immediately checked my purse. One of my bank cards was missing.
A few seconds later, Lindsay updated her social media.
In the photo, she stood beside a brand new Rolls-Royce Phantom, smiling brightly.
The caption read: [I seriously have the best boss ever! My driving’s so bad he bought me a brand-new car just to practice!]
As if she was afraid I might miss it, she sent the photo directly to me.
[Mrs. Drake, I won’t need to borrow your cars anymore.]
[Mr. Drake was worried I’d damage yours again, so he bought me my own.]
[He said I can drive it however I want.]
[Even if I crash it, he’ll just buy me another one.]
My friend immediately noticed the look on my face.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Just someone stole $1.2 million from my bank card.” I locked my phone.
I stood up. “Come on. Let’s go catch a thief.”
My friend and I headed straight to Nicholas’s company.
When we arrived, Nicholas and Lindsay had just returned as well.
The moment Lindsay saw me, her eyes lit up.
“Mrs. Drake, are you here to see my new car?”
She smiled proudly. “It’s nothing special—basically the same as yours.”
She paused deliberately. “Oh wait, actually, mine has a higher trim level.”
There wasn’t a trace of guilt on Nicholas’s face.
He looked completely justified. “Honey, you wouldn’t lend Lindsay your car, so what choice did I have? I bought her a new one.”
Lindsay jumped in. “Honestly, Mrs. Drake, if you’d just lent me your car from the start, Mr. Drake wouldn’t have had to spend all that money. Don’t you think?”
She stepped closer. Way too close.
The smug smile on her face practically screamed victory.
She was so caught up in flaunting her triumph she almost bumped right into me.
Then everything changed.
The office doors suddenly burst open. Men in black suits stormed in.
Before Lindsay could react, one of them had her arms pinned behind her back and her face pressed against the wall.
