He Lent Her My Cullinan, I Canceled His Family’s Cards Chapter 08
“Wow, Lindsay, you’ve got some nerve.”
“If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have deliberately wrecked three of her cars.”
Lindsay laughed loudly.
“You should’ve seen Juliette’s face when she saw that wrecked Cullinan—she was absolutely livid!”
Her laughter only grew louder.
“And the best part? Mr. Drake totally believed it wasn’t on purpose.”
“You know that—when you’re the favorite, you can get away with anything.”
Brooke chuckled. “So what’s your next move?”
Lindsay went on, “Fortune favors the bold. Once Juliette’s out of the picture, everything she owns is mine.”
After listening to the recording, I smiled.
Perfect. If that was her plan, then I’d simply play along.
That evening, Lindsay called me.
“Mrs. Drake, can we meet? I’d like to discuss how I’m going to pay back the money.”
“Sure. You pick the time and place.” I agreed without hesitation.
Lindsay immediately sent me the details.
Once it was settled, I went to find Nicholas.
The moment Savannah saw me come out, she rushed over, clearly looking for another fight.
“You still have the nerve to show your face?”
I shoved my palm against her face and pushed her away. “Get lost.”
“Nicholas!”
The moment he heard me call his name, Nicholas hurried out.
“Lindsay wants to meet tomorrow. She might return the car.”
“When I call, come right away and drive it back for me.”
Because he still felt guilty toward me, he agreed without hesitation.
Savannah stood nearby, fuming. “What gives you the right to boss Nicholas around?”
I folded my arms and looked at her.
“Get out of my sight. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens next.”
She sneered. “You think you can just hit me whenever you want?”
The next second, I slapped her hard across the face.
Savannah clutched her cheek, tears immediately filling her eyes.
“Nicholas! She hit me! Aren’t you going to do something?”
Even Nicholas was fed up. “Enough! How dare you talk to her like that?”
“If we’re getting divorced, you and Mom and Dad are a big part of the reason.”
Savannah looked stunned. “How’s this my fault? She’s the one divorcing you!”
She called Walter and Margaret, who were still out.
The moment they heard I was divorcing Nicholas, they rushed home.
As soon as Margaret walked through the door, she came straight toward me.
“Juliette, why are you suddenly making such a fuss about divorce? Aren’t you happy with the life you have?”
“No. I’m done. If someone else wants this marriage, they can have it. I’ve had enough.”
“Juliette, if you get divorced, who would want you? A divorced woman doesn’t exactly have a lot of options.”
I couldn’t help laughing. Margaret’s confidence was genuinely amusing.
“Margaret, I’m the sole heir to the Ashford family.”
“I’ll inherit more wealth than most people could imagine.”
“If I got divorced, there would be plenty of people lining up for a chance to date me.”
I paused before looking at her son.
“You should be worried about Nicholas instead. He’s a divorced man with nothing.”
“Nicholas isn’t some loser,” Margaret snapped back. “His company’s about to go public.”
“No, it won’t.” I met her gaze calmly.
“Once Ashford Bank pulls its funding, Nicholas’s company will go under within three days.”
“That’s impossible! That company was built on my son’s leadership.”
“The way you talk, you’d think the whole thing ran on you!”
I had no interest in arguing further.
“Then let’s wait and see.”
The next day, I went to meet Lindsay at the agreed location. It was a small café.
She ordered a coffee for me, but I didn’t touch it.
“Mrs. Drake, I’d like to ask for a little more time. I’ve managed to gather some of the money, but I’m still short.”
“How about this—I return the car first, and whatever it’s worth can go toward what I owe you.”
She leaned forward, earnest.
“I know it’s used now, so it’s lost some value.”
“You name the price—whatever you say it’s worth, I’ll make up the difference.”
She sounded completely sincere.
If I hadn’t heard that recording, I might have believed her.
But now, every word out of her mouth sounded ridiculous.
I looked at her calmly.
“But I don’t want the car. I want the money.”
