He Sent Me Overseas to Marry Her, I’m Staying Overseas to Never See Him Again Chapter 03
A few days before I left for London, the company called an emergency executive meeting.
Bennett specifically told me to attend, saying we needed to review project progress.
Project Polaris was the project I had led for two full years.
I had earned myself a bleeding ulcer from the sheer stress, pulled more all-nighters than I could count, and poured every bit of my life into it.
After steadying myself, I walked into the conference room.
Tessa sat on Bennett’s right.
I sat directly opposite them.
After the meeting began, Bennett went through several sets of quarterly numbers first.
Then his tone shifted.
“As for Project Polaris, its leadership will be transferred to Tessa starting today.”
For a moment, the entire room went dAuic-added to the Library
Everyone looked at me.
My breathing tightened slightly as I turned to Bennett.
“Was there a problem with the data model I built?”
Bennett glanced at me, then looked away.
“No. There’s no problem. But she’s better suited to take over from here. You can focus on London
and stop worrying about what happens here.”
“Fine.”
After the meeting ended, everyone filed out.
A few department heads hesitated when they passed me, as if they wanted to say something but did not dare.
Mina Chase patted my shoulder. Her eyes were red, but she said nothing.
I went to the break room and poured myself a cup of warm water.
When I lifted my head, I saw Tessa’s reflection in the glass behind me.
“Claire, Bennett insisted I take over your core project. Honestly, I’m kind of nervous.”
I looked at her and said nothing.
Then I went straight to Bennett’s office.
The door was half open. I stopped in the doorway.
“Project Polaris was the key asset I spent two years fighting for with everything I had.”
Bennett looked up from his documents and met my eyes.
After two seconds of silence, he said, “Company resources don’t belong to any one person.”
The click of heels sounded behind me.
Tessa had followed me again.
“Claire, please don’t be mad. I’ll work really hard and learn everything. I promise I won’t ruin what you built.”
I turned and walked away.
After three steps, I felt Bennett’s gaze follow me.
His lips moved slightly, as if he was about to call me back.
But Tessa happened to lean toward him and point at a report, asking him a question.
His attention was pulled back.
He said nothing.
When I returned to my office, I shut the door and sat quietly in my chair for ten minutes.
I had already passed the stage where he could still break my heart.
Mina knocked and came in, handing me several internal documents.
“Ms. Rowan, I’ve held back the renewal contracts for several major clients.
The structure for the London branch is already in place too.”
I took the files.
When I saw the contingency plans buried inside Project Polaris, the few fatal traps only I knew how to avoid, I pulled them out one by one and moved all of them into the deepest layer of my encrypted drive.
Before the end of the workday, I sat at my desk organizing the handover documents.
Bennett pushed the door open.
When he saw the files spread across my desk, he frowned.
“Your visa is almost finalized. Why aren’t you home packing?”
“The materials aren’t fully sorted yet.”
He stood behind me for a while, then placed a sticky note with an address on the corner of my desk.
“Stop sulking. I booked your favorite restaurant for your farewell dinner tonight.”
After saying that, he turned and left.
I stared at the note in silence for a long time.
At last, I picked up my pen and wrote one final sentence at the bottom of the handover form.
[Wishing you both a successful partnership.]
