His Girl Best Friend Mocked My Calm Act—Unhinged Family Shut Her Chapter 04
Skyler threw her head back and laughed. “What, Grace? Are you jealous?”
“Cole is the marketing director. He has the authority to promote me. He didn’t promote you. Is that what’s bothering you?”
I glanced at Cole but didn’t say anything. I just turned and walked to my desk.
After I briefly explained what happened in our family group chat, Skyler came over.
“Grace. One thousand reports. Due by the end of the day. If you can’t finish, pack your things and get out. This company doesn’t carry deadweight.”
I looked at her. “I’m not doing them.”
Skyler put her hands on her hips. “You’re not doing them? Then why are you here? You think this company belongs to your family?”
I didn’t answer. I just kept scrolling on my phone. When Skyler saw that I was ignoring her, she ripped the phone out of my hand.
“No phones during work hours. You think this is your living room?”
She turned around, opened the window, and threw my phone out.
Everyone in the office gasped. Skyler dusted off her hands and turned to address the whole room.
“No phones during work hours from now on. Let Grace be an example.”
Then she looked back at me. “What? Are you upset? You won’t work, but you’ll play on your phone all day.”
“Get mad. I swear I’m going to rip off your fake low-maintenance act in front of everyone. We’re both women. Stop pretending.”
I looked at her with a blank expression. “You just threw something out a window. That’s illegal.”
Skyler froze for a second. She thought I would get angry. But clearly she was the one losing her mind.
“God, you’re good at pretending. I throw your phone away and you still won’t get mad. Do you not have a temper at all, or are you planning something bigger?”
She leaned in close, looking nasty and smug. “Fine. Let’s see how much longer you can keep this up.”
But I had already turned back to my computer. After a while, I got thirsty and took my mug to the break room.
The second I reached the doorway, I stopped.
Skyler had Cole pinned against the wall. One hand was hooked around his neck. Then she kissed him.
She let him go and turned around. She looked at me standing in the doorway, triumphant.
“What happened to being so calm? Seeing this must be eating you up inside.”
“Go ahead. Lose it. Let’s see how long your whole above it all act can really last.”
But while I was still standing there with a blank face, the break room door flew open.
It was my dad, with twenty bodyguards in black suits behind him, and they all stormed in.
My mom was shrieking. “Honey! I’m about to lose my mind!”
Every single employee at their desks saw my mom and immediately stood up. “Good afternoon, Mrs. Thompson!”
Then the entire office went completely silent.
