I Played His Lover’s Husband Chapter 03

Young men wore their hearts on their sleeves-and their possessiveness was something else entirely.

Rhett would redden his eyes every night while demanding a proper title from me.

And out of bed? He watched me just as closely.

From the moment I got out of the car, my phone wouldn’t stop buzzing.

By the time I went upstairs and handed Dominic the breakup papers, I already had dozens of messages waiting for me.

[1 minute over. You really have that much to say to your ex-fiancé?]

[3 minutes overtime now. Want me to come up and turn down the bed for you two?]

As soon as I slid back into the car, I scratched under his chin like I was petting a big dog.

“Don’t be mad. Something came up.”

His handsome face stayed taut, but he held perfectly still and let me have my fun.

“What ‘something’ could you two possibly still have going on?!”

I leaned in. “Walked in on my fiancé sl

t for them to finish, didn’t I?”

I was baiting him now. “Come on, Rhett, you jealous?”

He straightened up immediately and corrected me on the spot.

“She’s just my ex-wife. The divorce’s finalized!”

“And what’s that supposed to mean, jealous or not jealous?” He looked genuinely wounded.

“You know full well nothing ever happened between me and Aurora.”

“I’m clean. I’ve never touched anyone but you.”

He had strong brows and a sharp nose that made his features stand out.

He looked intimidating at first glance. But when he lowered his eyes, his expression softened unexpectedly.

That contrast made him absurdly attractive.

No wonder Aurora had chased him for years, even scheming her way into marrying him.

If Rhett hadn’t been so stubborn, Aurora might never have felt trapped in a loveless marriage.

And if he hadn’t pushed for divorce after learning the truth, she probably would never have given up his

wealth and status just to become another man’s affair partner.

I watched his lips move, my mind wandering. Then I leaned closer and whispered in his ear.

“…I’m a little hungry.”

Rhett’s ears went crimson in an instant. The flush spread across his face like wildfire.

His throat bobbed quickly, but he still pushed me away firmly. “No.”

His restraint in this area was usually zero, so I raised a brow, surprised.

Then I watched him pull out an insulated food container, dead serious.

“You worked late tonight and haven’t eaten yet.”

“Eat first, or your stomach’s gonna act up again.”

I had ruined my stomach from drinking.

The Harrington family built their fortune through illegal business deals years ago.

Even now, some of that ruthless mentality still lingered in the family.

When I was helping Dominic scheme against his rivals, I drank heavily and hurt my stomach badly. It never fully healed.

Dominic never gave it a second thought. Rhett, on the other hand, always took it seriously.

My heart softened a little. A complicated warmth slowly spread through my chest.

I lowered my head and finished the meal.

After dinner, we stayed together until late into the night.

Neither of us wanted the night to end.

The stamina of a twenty-three-year-old man was honestly terrifying.

The next morning, I was jolted awake by the shrill sound of my phone ringing.

“Ms. Montgomery, we’ve got a situation!”
