I Woke Up Seven Years Later And Left My Cheating Husband Chapter 01
Claire felt as if she had swung with all her strength, only for the blow to vanish into nothing. A hole seemed to tear open in her chest, making even her breathing turn sharp and uneven.
“So you still don’t believe me?”
Bennett’s patience was completely exhausted.
“Does it matter that much whether I believe you or not?”
“Claire, the baby is sick right now. Can you stop being unreasonable?”
His words hit Claire like a slap, and she froze in place.
He thought she was being unreasonable?
She only wanted to explain that she had not done it.
But Bennett did not even want to listen. He had already decided she was guilty.
The most ridiculous part was that he had pretended to believe her, and she had actually taken it seriously.
Claire pulled at the corner of her mouth, her eyes filled with nothing but mockery.
Bennett did not see the mockery in her eyes. He did not see the red mark around her throat either. At that moment, all he could see was his son.
Even though he had once said to her, “Claire, you have to protect yourself. You can’t let yourself get hurt at all.”
“Because even the smallest injury on you would break my heart. I’d feel it more than you did.”
But now, he had no attention left for her. With a wave of his hand, he ordered the bodyguards in a low voice,
“Take Mrs. Ford home.”
After Claire returned home, she treated the wound herself.
The ring of abrasions around her neck was red and swollen. Even the slightest accidental touch sent a piercing pain through her, but it also made her clearer than ever.
Late that night, Bennett sent her a message saying Leo was doing better.
Claire did not reply.
She was busy packing and had no time to deal with Bennett’s messages.
Every memory connected to the two of them was thrown into the boxes she planned to discard.
The only things she packed were a few essential daily items.
By the time she closed her suitcase, dawn had already begun to break, and Bennett finally came back Claire hurried downstairs, eager to get her blessed medal back.
But what she saw was a metal fire bowl roaring with flames.
Mia raised her right hand high and, with a sharp smack, threw the blessed medal straight into the fire.
Claire’s eyes widened with fury and horror. She lunged forward without thinking and reached into the fire bowl.
She only wanted to save the blessed medal, but she accidentally bumped into Mia, who was holding the baby.
“No!”
Mia let out a scream. A lick of flame brushed across the baby’s arm, leaving a faint red mark.
At the same time, Claire grabbed the half-burned medal. Both of her hands were burned red and swollen, covered in shocking blisters.
“Mrs. Ford, you’ve gone too far!”
Claire forced herself through the searing pain, her eyes bloodshot with rage, and demanded, “Why did you burn my blessed medal?”
“Answer me. Why?”
Claire advanced on Mia like a wounded animal baring its teeth.
Bennett’s impatient voice came from behind her.
“I told her to.”
Claire stiffened all over. The half-burned medal in her hand seemed to still be scorching hot, burning through her palm and straight through her heart.
“I looked it up. When a sick child comes home, you’re supposed to clear out the bad luck so he doesn’t
relapse. That’s why I had Mia take care of it.”
Claire trembled with rage. “Clear out the bad luck? The thing my mother left me is bad luck to you?”
The half-burned medal lay in her palm, which was covered in shocking blisters, making her look utterly battered and pitiful.
But Bennett did not even lift his head. Instead, he gently held the baby’s arm, his gaze dark with anger.
“Claire, you hurt the baby again.”
“The first time, I told myself you just hadn’t thought things through yet, so I gave you time to adjust.”
“But this time, you went too far. You actually tried to throw the baby into the fire.”
He looked at her in disappointment. “Claire, you were never like this before.”
“You could be gentle with other people’s children. Why can’t you do the same for him?”
Claire looked at him and could not help laughing.
“Bennett, ask yourself honestly. Do you really not know why?”
Bennett’s expression changed instantly.
