I Woke Up Seven Years Later And Left My Cheating Husband Chapter 13

Claire had lost both of her parents. Her only living relative, her aunt, had moved overseas ten years ago.

The year Claire graduated, her aunt reached out to her.

“Claire, I’ve decided to stay child-free for life. You’re the only one left in the younger generation of our family. If you come to Scandinavia with me, I promise I’ll make sure you never have to struggle.”

Claire had only smiled helplessly. “I know you wouldn’t, but I still want to stay in the States. I want to… stay with Bennett.”

Her aunt sighed. “You can’t put all your faith in a man. Just because Bennett treats you well now doesn’t mean he’ll treat you well forever.”

Claire had been painfully naive. “I believe in him.”

“All right.” Her aunt could only nod. “But if you ever get hurt, remember that you aren’t alone. Contact me anytime.”

Back then, Claire had been full of confidence. “I won’t get hurt. The next time I come to Scandinavia, it’ll definitely be for vacation.”

But who could have imagined that years later, she truly came to Scandinavia because she had been hurt?

More than ten hours of travel left Claire feeling unwell by the time she landed. She forced herself through immigration and finally found the sign with her name on it. But the moment she raised her hand to wave, the world tilted, and she pitched forward.

A large, well-defined hand reached out and caught her firmly.

“Claire!” the man called softly. “Are you okay?”

“I…” Claire’s vision went dark. “My blood sugar is low.”

The man hurriedly pulled a piece of chocolate from his pocket, but before he could even finish peeling back the wrapper, Claire bit straight into it.

“Wait! The wrapper is still on it.”

Claire chewed and swallowed in a few quick bites, and the wave of nausea finally eased.

Only after she recovered did embarrassment belatedly wash over her.

“Thank you. I’m sorry for the trouble.”

She quickly struggled out of the man’s arms, stood upright, and did not even dare lift her head.

In the next second, he reached out and flicked her sharply on the forehead.

“Claire, you don’t recognize me?”

Claire looked at him in confusion. “Do we… know each other?”

“Well.” The man smiled in mock disappointment. “And here I was, volunteering to pick you up the second I heard you were coming, only for you to forget me completely.”

“You little troublemaker.”

Her aunt’s hurried voice sounded from not far away.

“This is Preston. Don’t you remember him?”

Claire froze as a blurred memory suddenly snapped into focus.

Thinking carefully, she had actually only met Preston Foster three times when she was very young.

Back then, her family had come to Scandinavia with her for a summer program, and they had stayed temporarily at the Foster family estate.

Every night when she came home, she would see Preston stuck in the living room, catching up on homework.

He would look up and smile at her. “I saved you a slice of cake. It’s in the kitchen. Go eat it before someone else does.”

That sweet taste had stayed in Claire’s memory. Even now, thinking of it still made her heart feel warm and

full.

“It’s you.” For some reason, Claire felt even more embarrassed. “Sorry. I really didn’t recognize you just now.”

“Oh, a tragedy for the ages.” Preston shook his head with a sigh. “But it’s fine. Since I’m such an incredibly good person, I’ve decided to forgive you even though you forgot me.”

“There you go, running your mouth again.” Claire’s aunt took Claire’s hand, then looked behind her. “Why are you alone? Where’s Bennett?”

When Claire had contacted her aunt, she had not told her that she was already divorced.

Now, faced with that question, a storm of emotions surged in her chest. The bitterness rose uncontrollably, drowning out all her reason.

Claire lowered her head, and tears slid down her cheeks.

“You were right, Aunt.”

“Nothing stays the same forever.”

“Bennett and I… are divorced.”

The moment those words left her mouth, the sign Preston was holding slipped from his hand and shattered on the floor.
