I Woke Up Seven Years Later And Left My Cheating Husband Chapter 16

From that day on, there was someone else at Bennett’s side.

No, more accurately, it was a wandering spirit.

His entire body was a horrifying mess of blood and torn flesh. Only his face remained clear, and it was unmistakably Bennett’s own.

He kept whispering in Bennett’s ear.

“Kill Preston, and you’ll still have a chance with Claire.”

“She’ll fall in love with you again. The two of you will love each other like before, grow old together, and never

leave each other.”

Bennett pretended he could not see him, hear him, or touch him.

He stubbornly did things his own way, begging Claire for forgiveness in the only way he knew.

He even tried to compete with Preston.

If Preston sent roses, Bennett sent a thousand red roses.

If Preston gave her a gift, Bennett put in a blank-check bid at auction for anything Claire had looked at even

one second too long.

If Preston took her to a movie, Bennett followed them and bought out the entire theater, leaving only the three of them inside.

He desperately tried every possible way to make it up to her.

But Claire only found him annoying.

Finally, one day, when Bennett followed close behind Claire again and tried to send her home, Claire stopped

walking and could no longer hold back.

“Bennett, how long are you planning to keep following me?”

“We are already divorced. For the rest of our lives, we will never have anything to do with each other again.”

Bennett’s face went slightly pale, and his voice grew urgent.

“Claire, I didn’t know about the divorce. You know that. I never wanted to divorce you.”

“You never wanted to.”

A deeply mocking smile tugged at Claire’s lips.

“Bennett, maybe the current you truly didn’t think that. But what about the future you?”

“The only reason you regret it and hurt so badly now is that I pulled myself away while you still loved me.

That’s why you feel torn apart. That’s why you can’t accept it.”

“But if I hadn’t left, if I had stayed and clung to you like a crazy woman, demanding an explanation and demanding that you cut ties with Mia, are you sure you wouldn’t have grown disgusted with me?”

“If our love had been worn away, are you sure you still wouldn’t have chosen divorce?”

Bennett denied it anxiously. “Of course I wouldn’t. I…”

Before he could finish, he saw the spirit in front of him suddenly begin to tremble violently.

The blood covering him seemed brighter and thicker. The agony on his face surged so fiercely that it looked ready to burst out of him. His eyes bulged as if they might split.

“I was wrong. I was wrong!”

“If I hadn’t asked you for a divorce, you wouldn’t have died. We wouldn’t have ended up like this, separated forever.”

Bennett finally understood.

In another world, even if Claire had chosen a different path, the ending she reached was still painful.

It was even more painful than this life.

She had died tragically, and he had spent the rest of his life trapped in despair and regret, living every day in terror and torment.

That was why his future self had come to this world.

He wanted to change the doomed ending waiting for him.

But he had still come too late.

Bennett closed his eyes and could not say another word.

Claire let out a humorless laugh and enunciated every word.

“The reason you told me the truth so recklessly before was because the future version of you told the current you that no matter what happened, I would never leave, wasn’t it?”

“So you see, Bennett, this is who you are deep down.”

“You have never changed.”

“We were always meant to end apart.”

In an instant, all the color drained from Bennett’s face.

He stumbled back two steps in panic, his gaze shaking violently.

He realized something and hurriedly tried to ask, “Did you also…”

But before he could finish, the spirit behind him let out a piercing shriek.

“No. I will never allow you to leave me again!”

The spirit burst into a blinding red light.

A moment later, as Preston slowly approached a short distance away, the advertising sign above his head

gave a faint creak and came crashing down.

Without the slightest hesitation, Claire lunged forward and threw herself in front of Preston.
