I Woke Up Seven Years Later And Left My Cheating Husband Chapter 03
After Claire signed the papers, Mrs. Ford Sr. promised that in a month, she would have someone send Claire the final divorce decree.
Claire first felt a wave of relief. Then a dull, bitter ache rose from the deepest part of her heart.
Leaving Bennett felt like being skinned alive.
Right now was the most painful stage, but she believed that if she slowly forced herself through the withdrawal, her heart would eventually go numb.
Then it would stop hurting.
After saying goodbye to Mrs. Ford Sr., Claire walked outside. Bennett was already waiting beside the Maybach with the baby in his arms, and Mia was with him.
Claire withdrew her gaze and was about to get into the back seat.
But Bennett suddenly stopped her. “You drive.”
“The baby cries whenever he’s away from me, and Mia doesn’t have a license.”
Claire froze, a flicker of stunned disbel
She had not touched a steering wheel

A year ago, it had been a car accident while she was driving that led to her hysterectomy and took away her chance to become a mother forever.
Back then, she had been unconscious for an entire month, hovering between life and death more than once.
When she finally opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Bennett gripping her hand tightly, his eyes red as he said, “Claire, you’re never touching a car again.”
“You don’t need to drive. You’re Mrs. Ford, not a chauffeur.”
And now, for the sake of this child, he wanted her to be the driver?
Claire pressed her lips together until they formed a hard, straight line. She immediately shook her head. “I can’t drive.”
But Bennett only opened the rear door while soothing the baby, his tone casual and dismissive.
“Driving is a basic skill. You can’t avoid getting behind the wheel for the rest of your life.”
“Claire, try to work through your fear.”
Claire stood stiffly in place, her mind completely blank.
If driving was such a basic skill, why hadn’t Mia learned?
Bennett, Mia, and the baby filled the entire back seat, leaving Claire with only the driver’s seat or the front passenger seat.
She stared at the steering wheel for a long time before finally closing her eyes and letting out a heavy breath That was right.
Once she left the Ford family, there would be no driver waiting for her anymore.
She would have to rely on herself eventually.
Claire gathered her courage and gripped the steering wheel again.
Her fear of holding it was just like her fear of leaving Bennett.
Claire told herself that both fears could be overcome.
The drive from the Ford family estate back to the house they had bought when they got married should have taken only half an hour, but Claire took a full hour.
Along the way, cold sweat soaked her skin, and her entire body trembled. Behind her, however, Bennett and Mia kept laughing as they played with the baby.
They were warm and happy together, like a real family of three.
Claire was the outsider instead.
From beginning to end, Bennett never noticed Claire’s fear.
Or perhaps he did notice but had no attention to spare for her.
At last, she parked the Maybach steadily in front of the house. Claire let out a sharp breath, the sweat on her back already soaking through her clothes.
But after Bennett got out of the car, all he said lightly was, “See? It wasn’t that hard.”
Then he forced the exhausted baby into Claire’s arms.
“You’re going to be his mother from now on. You need to build a bond with him.”
“The room at the far end of the second floor is his. Try putting him to sleep. I still have work to handle.”
The room at the far end of the second floor was the nursery they had once prepared for their own child.
So Bennett had already arranged everything.
All she could do was wait to be informed.
A self-mocking smile tugged at Claire’s lips as she forced down the stabbing pain in her chest.
Half an hour later, the baby finally fell asleep. Claire let out a breath of relief and left the room while rubbing her aching lower back.
But the moment she stepped out, Mia let out a scream behind her.
“Oh my God! Why are all of Leo’s clothes soaked?”
