Secret Love Ended Before His Wedding Chapter 06
Nolan instinctively tried to pull away from Brielle.
But Brielle gripped his arm with all her strength.
Her eyes were wide with desperation. Her lips trembled as she pleaded softly.
“Nolan… after the wedding, I’ll help you explain it to Sienna. But right now, please, let’s just finish the
ceremony. I’m begging you.”
I could keep quiet for the sake of my family’s dignity.
Brielle had to do the same for hers.
She had to protect the facade she had fought so hard to build.
She couldn’t imagine what kind of joke she and her family would become if Nolan denied their relationship
right then and there.
And she couldn’t imagine what her status-obsessed father would do to her without Nolan.
Nolan’s face was tense, but in the end, he said nothing more.
“Sorry for interrupting your wedding. Please continue.”
With a faint smile, I dragged Hayes, who was still stunned, out of the reception hall.
Only when we reached the entrance did Hayes finally come back to himself.
He scanned my face, pure confusion etched in his features.
“He lied to you. Why didn’t you expose him?”
I looked at him calmly. “Because I refuse to trade my dignity for a scene.”
“You think if I stood in front of everyone and called him a cheating coward, then said my best friend stabbed
me in the back, they’d be the only ones humiliated?”
If things turned ugly, I could leave this place and never come back.
But this was where my parents had lived their whole lives.
They had friends here. Relatives here.
I couldn’t ask them to give up everything and start over just because of me.
“But you didn’t do anything wrong. If you stay silent, they get away scot-free.”
I was calm.
Hayes, on the other hand, looked like he was about to lose his mind.
I stared at him, genuinely confused.
As far as I remembered, we had only met a handful of times.
We had barely even spoken.
I didn’t understand why he was taking this so personally.
“Hayes, why are you…”
I was about to ask him.
But my mother suddenly appeared and yanked me behind her.
She looked Hayes up and down with sharp suspicion.
“Well, well. The man who was supposedly too busy for us to meet. Turns out you had time to show up at
someone else’s wedding.”
Hayes froze for a moment.
Then the pieces clicked into place.
“I’m sorry.”
He bowed his head slightly, his expression sincere. “This was my fault. I won’t let it happen again.”
My mother was caught off guard by his earnest attitude.
Just a second ago, she had been ready to demand that I break up with him if he gave her even a hint of
arrogance.
But the man in front of her was nothing like she had expected.
“It’s… fine. There’s no need to be so formal.”
I looked at the seriousness on his face, and the confusion in my heart grew even stronger.
But with my mother standing there, I couldn’t ask.
“Oh, I know you young people have your own ideas. I just wanted to know whether this boyfriend of hers actually existed. I was afraid she was lying to me.”
The sternness on my mother’s face vanished in an instant, replaced by a warm, almost affectionate smile.
“If you were coming to the wedding, why didn’t you tell us earlier? We have extra seats at our table. I could have introduced you to the family.”
“Mom!” Alarm bells went off in my head the second I heard that. “He’s… he has a tight schedule. He has to
slip out soon.”
“That’s all right. I noticed a few empty spots at your table anyway. It’s not too late for me to sit with you now.”
Hayes cut me off without warning, smiling politely at my mother.
My eyes widened in shock. I grabbed his sleeve on instinct and hissed, “What are you doing? I was the one who dragged you into this. You don’t have to take it seriously.”
“I…”
Before he could finish, my mother eagerly took Hayes by the arm and led him back into the reception hall.
