The Blind Boy I Picked Up Was the Mafia Don Chapter 06
“To make sure money doesn’t change a woman for the worse, let’s meet in the middle 66000 per meal.”
Alexander left that sentence and walked out of the hospital.
I patted my face, which was redder than a monkey’s butt, and warned myself not to get all lovesick.
Alexander was a cunning fox. For all I knew, he was playing the long game: make me fall for him, then dump me hard.
I had to stay on guard. Not fall into his trap.
If he wanted to act, I could act too.
As long as he didn’t make work hell for me and Lucy, we were good.
After I got out of the hospital, Alexander and I were both slammed.
The only time we saw each other was when we ate together in his office.
And that became my biggest headache.
The office was already a gossip mill.
Especially after that phone call kerfuffle, people looked at me differently.
Anything, no matter how small, became water-cooler talk.
One day, when everyone else was out to lunch, I snuck toward Alexander’s office and ran right into Lucy.
“Emmy, where are you going?”
“Bathroom.” I lied.
Lucy looked at the office door, just a few steps away, and gave me a knowing smile.
“Emmy, go blow in the Don’s ear for us. Tell him to cancel overtime this week. He’s the big boss, never gets tired, but us peons are dying. And put in a good word for me while you’re at it.”
Thank God Lucy still didn’t know that the blind boy from back then was Alexander.
If she did, she wouldn’t be asking me to put in a good word. She’d be dragging me to file our resignations together.
She hooked her finger and leaned in. “Emmy, a high-quality man like Don Corleone? There are tons of women circling him. This is a golden opportunity. If you don’t go for it, I’ll lose all respect for you.”
“Oh, right. I forgot you’ve barely been around any guys since that blind boy. When I’m not so busy, I’ll give you some lessons.”
Me: “…”
I finally got rid of Lucy.
Then I slipped into Alexander’s office like a little eel.
He was heating up food in the microwave.
A tall figure in an expensive suit wearing a Piglet apron. It was ridiculous.
“Ma’am, is it illegal to text back where you’re from?”
“Huh?” I opened iMessage. 99+ unread messages from Alexander.
[Ma’am, the food’s getting cold. Why aren’t you here yet?]
[Transfer: 52000]
[Ma’am, what did I do wrong? Talk to me. Ma’am, don’t ignore me. Is it because I didn’t show you what you wanted to see at the hospital?]
[Dozens of ab pics from different angles.jpg]
[I’m getting mad now. I’m not sending you another message.]
One minute later…
[Ma’am, is your blood sugar low again?]
[Ma’am, don’t scare me.]
[Ma’am, are you… leaving me again?]
The latest one was from a minute ago.
Just looking at the messages, you’d think we were really a couple in love.
Ever since I came back, I couldn’t figure out what Alexander wanted.
Like the sword of Damocles hanging over my head, not knowing when it would fall.
While we ate, I gathered my courage and pulled out my bank card. “Alexander, this is our last meal I saved up the hundred million. Let’s break-”
The door. Voices. “Don Corleone, we’re here to drop off the joint materials.”
I panicked. I spun around, having no idea where to go, and just before Leo and the others walked in,
I dove under Alexander’s desk.
They filed in. Leo was sharp. He noticed right away. “Don Corleone, why are there two place settings?”
“Yeah. Why?” Alexander looked down, met my eyes, and his gaze went dark.
Luckily, I didn’t have to suffer long.
Alexander said casually, “One for noodles. One for meat.”
I shot him a grateful look. He smiled and started petting my hair.
His fingers were cool. A shiver ran down my spine.
The meeting went terribly. Two pages into the presentation, Alexander had already pointed out ten problems.
The room was tense.
He must have gotten thirsty from all the yelling, because he took a sip of water.
I tugged on his pants leg and mouthed, “My leg’s asleep.”
Alexander: “That’s enough for today. Go make revisions.”
One of the crew blurted out, “Don Corleone, why are you being so nice today? Usually you yell at us for a full hour. It’s only been ten minutes.”
The others laughed nervously and dragged him away.
I was about to crawl out when someone else walked in.
It was Isabella. All glammed up.
if I came out from under the desk now, there was no way I could explain this.
I gritted my teeth and stayed put, like a quail, staring at Alexander’s perfectly pressed pants.
Isabella set a box on the desk. “Here’s that limited edition perfume you asked me to get from the brand.”
“Alexander, I’m curious. What kind of girl is so hard to catch that you’re going to all this trouble?”
My heart skipped. Who was Alexander chasing?
Wasn’t I the woman he saw the most?
