The Rose He Killed Chapter 05

When Asher ran out of the smoke with Aria, the back of his combat uniform was soaked in blood.

He dropped to one knee, steadying himself, and checked the person in his arms first. “Are you hurt?”

Seeing only minor scrapes, he immediately called out, “The training ground had an accidental explosion. The Luna is trapped. Need backup now!”

He was about to organize a search when his sleeve got tugged gently.

Aria’s face was pale. Her fingers slipped limply.

“Arial” Asher scooped her up instantly, his voice dropping soft. “Where does it hurt?”

She signed weakly, then passed out.

Asher’s pupils shrank. He ran with her to the pack hospital.

Only when the ER light turned red did he rip his collar open in agitation.

Then Chloe’s face flashed through his mind—her lying in the rubble.

A sharp pain stabbed his chest.

His wolf howled inside him. Mate! Our mate is still near the blast zone! Is she alive?

He tried to mindlink her. Dead silence.

He was about to call the rescue team when a nurse’s voice came from behind.

“Family of Aria Martin?”

Asher hung up immediately. “I’m here! How is she?”

The healer frowned. “Alpha, she’s seven weeks pregnant. Running into an explosion site at this stage—”

Pregnant?

Asher froze. Then he turned, left the healer’s words behind, and rushed into the room. He kissed Aria’s forehead solemnly.

“We have another child… I’ll protect you both this time.”

Chloe’s existence was completely forgotten in the excitement.

For the next two weeks, Asher moved Aria into the pack house. He even brought her to pack meetings.

One day, he had an emergency meeting and left Aria in his office.

A knock. His assistant came in with a tray. “Miss Aria, the Alpha sent some snacks.”

The second she set the tray down, an icy voice said, “You’ve got your shirt unbuttoned down to the second button. Who are you trying to seduce?”

Mia froze. “You… can talk?”

Aria stood up, her eyes like ice. “I asked if you’re trying to seduce Asher.”

“This is the standard office uniform…” Mia instinctively touched her collar.

“Uniform?” Aria ripped off her scarf. “Fitted shirt. Skirt above the knee. And you dare say you’re not trying?”

Mia’s eyes went red. “You can’t humiliate me like this—”

Aria backhanded her before she finished.

“You think you can talk back to me?” She threw the scarf in Mia’s face. “Get out of this pack on your own, or I’ll make sure you can’t survive here.”

Mia was shaking. Before she could retort, the door opened.

Asher stood in the doorway, frowning. “What’s going on? I heard noise from the hall.”
