The Rose He Killed Chapter 06
Mia didn’t even get a word out.
Aria’s sharp edge melted into spring-rain softness. She threw herself into Asher’s arms, her shoulders trembling, crying silently.
Mia’s eyes went wide.
Asher’s face darkened. He patted Aria’s back and shot Mia a cold glare. “What did you do to her?”
“Alpha! Miss Aria hit me first—” Mia pointed at the red mark on her face. “She slapped me and told me to get out of the pack…”
“Ridiculous!” Asher cut her off harshly. “Aria can’t speak. How could she insult you?”
In his arms, Aria looked up at the perfect moment, her fingers trembling as she signed, her eyes full of fear as she glanced at Mia.
Asher grabbed a stack of files and hurled them at her. “Get to the detention room!”
The force of his Alpha aura drove Mia to her knees, but her back stayed straight.
“That fake mute is going to destroy you! Luna Chloe might have been crazy, but she’s a thousand times better than this acting bitch!”
The name “Chloe” stabbed into his heart like a thorn.
He suddenly remembered those desperate eyes in the explosion.
He hadn’t even checked on the rescue results all this time.
Then the office door burst open.
Andrei stormed in, covered in dust, and slammed his fist into Asher’s cheekbone.
*This is how you take care of my sister?!”
Asher wiped the blood from his nose and saw who it was. “Andrei, what the hell is wrong with you?”
Andrei grabbed his collar and roared, “Asher! My sister is dead! You killed her!”
*Bullshit!” Asher wrenched free. “How could she be dead…”
*See this?” Andrei threw a blood-soaked piece of fabric at him. “Our pack soldiers found it in the rubble. While you were showing off your mistress, my sister’s body was freezing in the morgue.”
Asher snatched the bloody cloth. The moment his fingers touched the dark brown scabs, they started shaking violently. Agony crushed his chest.
He growled, “I don’t believe you, Andrei. I want to see her. I don’t believe she’s dead!”
Andrei looked at him and let out a cold laugh. Then he nodded.
*Fine. You want to see her? I’ll take you right now.”
The cold in the pack hospital’s underground tunnel seeped into his bones.
Asher stopped in front of the morgue door.
“Scared?” Andrei smirked and pushed the iron door open. “Afraid she’ll come back to haunt you?”
On the single autopsy table lay a familiar figure.
Chloe wore torn clothes. Her face was peaceful, like she was sleeping. Only the dried blood at the corner of her mouth told the final horror.
Asher stumbled forward and crashed to his knees on the concrete.
His trembling fingers touched her blue-gray cheek. The icy feel shattered every last hope.
“No way… that Fifteen days couldn’t kill her! How could she—” Asher suddenly grabbed Andrei’s collar. “You’re lying to me, both of you! She’s too afraid to die…”
“Enough!” Andrei shoved him hard. “My sister is dead. From now on, you and her go your separate ways.”
He carefully lifted his sister into his arms, his voice choking. “I’m taking you home, sis.”
“She’s my Luna! She has to be buried in the pack cemetery!” Asher tried to block him.
Andrei spun and kicked him in the chest, sending him flying.
Asher kept his balance but stood there stunned for a few seconds. Then he laughed.
“I don’t deserve her? And you think Chloe did? Andrei, let me tell you something—she deserved to die!”
“It was her fate. She owed it to people. Even the universe wouldn’t let her live.”
“Say that again?” Andrei’s pupils shrank to pinpoints.
“So what if I do?” Asher swept his bloodshot eyes over the body. “How much harm did she drag me into? How many people died? That’s her karma. Take her away. Don’t dirty this place.”
Then he turned and walked out, like every extra second was torture.
But two steps later, Andrei’s cold mockery hit him from behind. “Asher, you idiot. You deserve to be played by a fake mute.”
His step faltered. He didn’t look back.
