The Rose He Killed Chapter 07
“Get lost.”
Asher dropped straight to his knees on the frozen ground. “Tell me where she’s buried… Let me be near
Andrei laughed coldly. “When she was alive, you humiliated her. Now who are you kneeling for?”
A sudden storm broke. Freezing rain pelted down, icing instantly on his clothes.
Asher knelt in the rain for three days and three nights. His lips split and bled. His body swayed.
He didn’t know that on the second floor, a thin figure stood quietly by the study window.
I, wrapped in a coat, watched him calmly.
Those features that once drove her crazy now stirred nothing.
Andrei pushed the door open and handed her hot tea. “He’s been kneeling for three days, sis. He’ll die
like this.”
I slowly pulled the curtain shut, blocking out everything outside. “Let him kneel. What’s that got to do
with me?”
Some wounds can’t be healed.
Some betrayals can’t be forgiven.
The heart that once beat so wildly for him had died for good-with that unborn child, and that carefully
staged “death.”
Three months later, in a quiet town somewhere in Europe.
I looked at the unfamiliar woman who’d come looking for me.
“Miss Carter, I used to be a warrior in the elite unit of the Moonbrook Pack. My name’s Lydia.” She
pushed a faded bullet casing across the table.
“Three years ago, during the pack’s little show for the troops… that new warrior who got trapped in the
burning equipment shed. That was my little brother.”
My fingers paused.
“He was a spy turned by a rival pack.” Lydia’s eyes glistened. “After they turned him, he forced me to
steal information for them.”
Lydia clenched her fist. “Once he died, I could start over. Thank you for not letting him hurt more people
back then.”
I listened quietly, my heart perfectly calm.
Underneath all my madness all those years, there’d been a kind heart.
I’d suffered, so I wanted to hold an umbrella for others in the rain.
I used to think Asher would understand the softness under my crazy. But reality had slapped me.
Maybe the split between me and Asher had been destined all along.
After saying goodbye to the woman, I began my real journey across the world.
I went to the fjords of Norway, watching the glaciers’ majesty, feeling the power of nature.
I went to the Sahara Desert, under the endless stars, realizing how small one person is.
I went to temples in Kyoto, seeking inner peace among red leaves and chanting.
I went to the sun of Tuscany, breathing in the scent of vineyards, feeling life’s abundance…
I was no longer anyone’s mate. No longer anyone’s avenger. She was just Chloe.
I walked slowly through every kind of landscape, peeling away the chains of the past, healing her
shattered soul.
Smiles returned to my face. Not the manic, mocking smiles of before, but real, peaceful, gentle ones.
One night, a year later, on a lively bar street in Southeast Asia
Asher stumbled out of a bar, drunk. He was unshaven, hollow-eyed, nothing left of the proud Alpha he’d
once been.
