You Kept Me Waiting While Loving Her 1 Chapter 02

Back home, I replied to the job offer from San Francisco and booked a flight for the next evening.

When I first received their outreach, I hesitated for a long time.

On one hand, I couldn’t let go of Wyatt. On the other hand, they were offering a generous salary based on my academic record and they’d even promised to connect me with specialists who might be able to treat my

mother’s vision loss.

I was in the middle of packing when I heard the door open. Wyatt walked in with Reese, carefully wiping the

rain off her coat.

He noticed my suitcase and frowned. “I already promised Reese I’d go to Paris with her for the graduation

trip. You don’t even have a visa, so don’t bother coming.”

My hands paused.

I had fallen in love with Paris, a city known as a symbol of romance, ever since I watched variety shows last

year.

I once joked and asked him if we could travel there together after graduation, and he had said yes without a

second thought.

Now he was going there with someone else instead.

He must have mistaken my silence for sulking, because he pulled out a box of peaches from a bag and

handed it to me.

“Reese heard I proposed to you, so she specially bought you this fruit as a congratulations.”

The smell of peaches filled the air. My stomach turned.

Four years together, and he still didn’t remember that I absolutely hated peach.

Reese was the one who loved it.

“Alaia, I specially got you these to celebrate! They weren’t cheap!”

Wyatt noticed Reese was barefoot. He grabbed a pair of slippers, crouched down in front of her, and helped

her put them on.

“You’re about to get your period soon, don’t bother bending down to change your shoes. Let me do it for you. Keep your little savings to yourself, I’ll cover the cost of these fruits.”

I watched him hold her ankle, playfully tickling the sole of her foot. They looked exactly like a couple madly in love. And I felt like a third wheel who had no business being there.

Reese glanced at me, a flash of triumph in her eyes. “Don’t mind me and Wyatt, Alaia. We’re like siblings- we’ve always messed around like this.”

Siblings?

Would siblings make him leave me alone in hospital when I was hurt, just because she feared thunder and had him stay the whole night chatting with her under the same blanket?

Would siblings make him abandon me when I was upset over my tutor’s harsh words and craving comfort, all just to go traveling with her instead?

What I didn’t understand was this: if she was so sure Wyatt cared about her more than anyone, and yet she

refused to actually be with him, why did she keep coming to rub it in my face?

“Alaia won’t mind. You’re like a sister to us. We’re family.”

Wyatt didn’t pick up on my low mood at all. He turned and walked into the kitchen, grabbed the jar of strawberry preserves from the fridge, and threw it straight into the trash.

I rushed in after him and fished it out. “My mother made that. What gives you the right to throw it away?”

He hadn’t expected me to react so strongly. “Reese doesn’t eat uncertified homemade goods. Tell your mom to stay away from that kind of thing too.”

He’d forgotten again.

The last time my mother visited, she’d specifically told me to make sure he tried those preserves. She’d spent

half a month simmering them.

“Wyatt, do you even know what it means to respect someone?”

Before he could say anything else, Reese pulled at his sleeve. “Forget it, Wyatt. Why don’t you just take me

out to eat instead?”

Then she turned to me. “And Alaia, you really shouldn’t push your luck just because he proposed to you. You shouldn’t talk to him like this, or you two will end up quarreling nonstop in the future.”

Wyatt stared at my face for a long moment. Finally, he muttered, “I forgot your mom made them. I’ll just get

you another bottle to make up for it.”

I watched him take Reese’s hand and walk out.

The door slammed shut sharply, tearing my heart to shreds.

I shook my head.

There was no “future” left for Wyatt and me.

By the time I finished packing, it was already midnight.

I unlocked my phone to scroll through short videos, only to come across footage of Wyatt.
