You Kept Me Waiting While Loving Her 1 Chapter 03
The top trending video on local short-video platforms was a promotional clip from a popular
Internet-famous restaurant nearby.
In the footage, Wyatt pressed his lips tenderly against Reese’s.
By the end, when it was just them and one other couple left, the crowd was roaring with cheers.
Reese could barely catch her breath. Wyatt pressed his hand to the back of her head and pulled her close by
the waist.
The comment section was full of envious remarks, everyone gushing over how well-matched they looked
and sighing over such sweet, youthful romance.
I knew that the restaurant hosted a couples kissing contest every night. The winners got their meal for free,
plus a limited-edition mystery box.
I’d brought it up to him so many times. And every single time, Wyatt gave me the same answer, “Those fancy eateries are just for taking pretty photos, nothing but a gimmick to fool girls like you.”
My phone blew up with messages because of that video.
[Alaia! What the hell? Why is Wyatt at a couples contest with his friend?]
[Did you and Wyatt break up?]

Out of all those hundreds of messages, Wyatt’s text was the very last one I received.
It was just a short line: [Reese really wanted that mystery box, so I played along with the game. Don’t be so
petty.]
So kissing Reese was just “playing along.” A game. No big deal.
I replayed that video over and over again in self-torment, letting old wounds tear open inside me time and
time again.
By the eighteenth time, the ache had finally faded away completely.
I quietly liked the video. Then I turned off my phone.
In the dead of night, I was jolted awake by a call from the police station.
“Hello, you’re listed as Mr. Blackwell’s emergency contact. He got into a fight at a restaurant. Please come to
the hospital.”
I froze for a second, then pulled on my clothes and headed out.
Back when I was hospitalized after the car accident, I couldn’t reach him at all.
After, to reassure me, Wyatt had deliberately set each other as our emergency contacts.
But he knew perfectly well he’d been out of town because he was with Reese. He just blamed the hospital for
not contacting him.
When I got to the hospital, I found out he’d lost it because some guy had made a pass at Reese.
My palms turned cold with sweat as I watched the footage the police showed me.
I’d never seen Wyatt like that.
Though he used to be idle and undisciplined, he never resorted to violence. Yet in the video, he was like a
furious beast throwing wild punches.
“How dare you lay a hand on mine?”
The other guy’s face was covered in blood. Wyatt kept punching, over and over.
Each blow landed on my chest, too, tearing a hole right through it. Cold air rushed in.
Reese came running over and grabbed my hand. “Alaia, Wyatt’s hurt. I really don’t understand how this
happened. That man just asked if I was single, and Wyatt got so angry.”
I was exhausted by that point. I didn’t have the energy for pretense.
I signed the settlement forms, paid with Wyatt’s card, and said, “You don’t need to explain anything to me. From now on, what happens between you two has nothing to do with me.”
