I Saw The Comments Calling Me Ugly And Jumped Him In The Shower Chapter 06
Tears welled up helplessly as grief crashed over me.
Even as a side character, I deserved at least a little happiness, didn’t I?
I brushed it off. Ever since my parents abandoned me after their divorce, I’d grown used to good things never coming my way.
I squatted by the side of the road and cried for a while before picking myself up to leave.
Right then, someone walked over.
My vision went black, and I stumbled for a split second, but the person instinctively caught me.
Once I steadied myself and looked up, I realized I actually knew him.
“Are you… Cassius’s cousin?”
Mateo Quinn nodded. “Yeah. I happened to come back to the country for some business recently. You looked familiar, so I came over to check.”
He was three years older than Cassius and spent most of his time managing the overseas business operations.
Aside from a brief glimpse at the wedding, we had never met again.
I didn’t expect him to remember me, and he was even holding onto my hand without letting go.
I grew flustered and squirmed slightly to pull away. “Mateo…”
Mateo snapped out of it. “Sorry, that was rude of me.”
He looked every bit the refined gentleman.
The comments exploded again.
[Hey, that’s the mysterious tycoon! Super rich with minimal screen time, I’ve always been curious about him.]
[I heard this guy is completely obsessed with his career and has never gotten married.]
[Honestly, Delilah just has terrible luck. If she had set her sights on Mateo, she’d at least have a lifetime of wealth without worrying about him falling for someone else.]
[Hahaha you’re right. Mateo loves absolutely nobody, only his career. Being with someone like that would save so much damn trouble.]
Mateo… saves trouble?
Could that really be an option?
I seriously thought about it for a second, then laughed at my own absurdity.
Delilah, oh Delilah, how many times do you have to trip and fall before you stop letting your mind wander into these wild fantasies?
When I returned home that evening, I remembered what the comments had said about Cassius proposing to Jade in two months.
If that was the timeline, then we would be heading to the courthouse for the divorce very soon.
Before that happened, I needed to pack up my things quickly.
While I was organizing my clothes, a sound came from downstairs.
I went down to look and saw Cassius had returned.
Behind him stood Jade, dressed in a sleek suit.
This was the first time I was getting a close, proper look at the so-called FL.
She really was beautiful.
Probably because Cassius had been taking good care of her lately, Jade wore light makeup, and the clothes she had on weren’t cheap.
Seeing me, she remained perfectly poised and respectful. “Hello, Mrs. Quinn.”
Before I could even speak, she added, “I’m the new secretary at the company. I came with Mr. Quinn to pack his luggage for a business trip. Please don’t misunderstand.”
I didn’t misunderstand. This entire house would belong to you eventually anyway.
I gave a meaningful, awkward smile and turned to look at Cassius, who was drinking water.
He met my gaze. “Help me pack a few changes of clothes. I’ll be back in a couple of days.”
I had no choice but to agree.
Just as I was about to stand up, I saw the comments blasting me for being a busybody, so I sat right back down.
Smiling warmly at Jade, I said, “Mr. Quinn’s bedroom is the guest room on the left side of the second floor. Why don’t you go up and help him pack? You’re his secretary, so you know better than anyone which clothes fit which occasion.”
A flash of surprise and excitement crossed Jade’s face.
But she suppressed it.
She put on a calm front and said, “Doesn’t that seem inappropriate?”
“It’s fine. Go ahead.”
Once she went upstairs, Cassius walked over with a dark expression. “Delilah.”
“Yeah?”
“How could you let someone else into my bedroom?”
“Why not? It’s not like you like it when I go into your bedroom anyway.”
It wasn’t just about going into his bedroom. Even getting slightly close to him seemed like it would kill him.
Cassius looked like he wanted to say something but stopped.
He tugged at his collar in frustration.
Just as he was about to speak, Jade came back downstairs.
I gave a gentle smile. “Alright, don’t you have a business trip to catch? You two should head out.”
With that, I turned around and walked back into the master bedroom.
