I Saw The Comments Calling Me Ugly And Jumped Him In The Shower Chapter 09

I thought Cassius would question me or argue with me. Tell me it made no sense to file for divorce right after what happened between us.

But he didn’t.

He just stood there for a long time, completely still.

Then he forced out a faint smile.

“Alright,” he said.

His voice sounded rough. Almost bitter.

We calmly worked out the divorce agreement. Aside from the house we were currently living in, Cassius also transferred ten million dollars to me.

His deep gaze stayed locked on me. “Is this enough, Delilah?”

I nodded. “Yes. It’s enough.”

More than enough for me to leave the country, settle somewhere small overseas, and live carefully.

“Good.”

Then he turned and walked away. His silhouette looked somewhat desolate.

I started packing up what little I still had left. Honestly, there wasn’t much. I’d already thrown away most of my things over time.

After sending my luggage to a temporary rental apartment, I took one last look at the spacious house.

This was the place where, night after night, I had waited for Cassius to come home.

Waited for him to fall for me. Waited for him to look at me with tenderness.

I waited and waited, until the comments said that he belonged to someone else.

I hated many people. I hated myself too. I always felt that heaven shouldn’t have made me the only one to suffer.

But when it actually ended, all I could feel was a quiet sense of release.

So what if I couldn’t be with him? I still had eleven million dollars.

It’s hard for life to be truly miserable when you’ve got money.

After leaving the Quinn residence, I thought I would never see Cassius again.

But starting the very next day, a bouquet of flowers appeared at my doorstep every single day.

Roses. Sunflowers. Peonies. Daisies.

Without exception, each came with a card: [Wishing all your dreams come true.]

The handwriting was clearly Cassius’s.

The comments were confused, too.

[What’s going on? Why is Cassius so down after the divorce?]

[Yeah. He doesn’t even look at Jade anymore. After work he just locks himself up at home. Nobody knows what he’s thinking.]

[I swear… I feel like he’s thinking about Delilah.]

[Hey. Don’t be ridiculous.]

[Actually, I kind of feel the same. He’s not saying it, but he’s smoking and drinking now. The divorce actually seems to be hitting him hard.]

[If it hurts that much, why agree to divorce in the first place? Don’t tell me it’s just to make room for Jade. This is ridiculous.]

I closed my eyes and stopped looking at the annoying comments.

Then the doorbell rang.

I opened the door and saw Cassius.

His face was completely drained of color as he leaned against the wall.

He was burning up, his body unsteady, like he could collapse at any moment.

I flinched and quickly caught him. “Cassius…”

He forced his eyes open. When he saw me, he gave a weak smile. “Delilah… you actually opened the door for me.”

Before he could finish, his body slumped into mine.

For a man well over six feet tall, he was almost impossible to hold up.

I half-dragged, half-supported him to the bed. Just as I turned to get medicine, his hand shot out and grabbed mine.

He pulled me straight into his arms. His body felt like a furnace.

“Delilah… don’t go.” He buried his face in my neck. Something cold slid into my skin. “Just let me hold you… for a little while. Just a little while.”

Even his breathing was burning hot. He was clearly burning with fever.

My throat tightened for no reason.

“Cassius, what are you doing? Didn’t you say you didn’t like me? What is this supposed to mean?”

At my words, he opened his eyes and kissed me.

“I do,” he said. “I like you. I just didn’t understand it before.”

That fragile silhouette of hers—always quietly staying at home.

It had made him think she would never leave.

Until that business trip. He saw her in a photo with someone else.

They had been cold toward each other for a long time, but that was the first time Delilah had smiled so softly while leaning beside another man.

Just one glance. And Cassius felt a surge of uncontrollable rage.

That was when it hit him. Why was he so sure she would never leave?

She hadn’t seemed like she needed him anymore.

He told himself he didn’t care.

But now, even the idea of her standing next to someone he knew made him feel like he was going insane.

The jealousy burned through him like fire.

As soon as the contract was signed, he rushed back overnight.

The moment he saw her, he lost control completely.

He kissed her. He held her like a man possessed.

But even at their most intimate, there was always that faint distance in her eyes.

That uncertainty drove him mad. So he agreed to the divorce.

He knew he hadn’t done well enough before. Once he was single again, he would start over properly.

This time, he would make her feel loved.

But Cassius had overestimated his patience. Delilah had only been gone a few days, and he was already restless, barely able to sit still, desperate to see her.

Some people were just like that. They didn’t realize what mattered until it was gone. And once it was, they discovered they couldn’t live without it.
