I Woke Up Seven Years Later And Left My Cheating Husband Chapter 07
When Claire opened her eyes again, she was already in the hospital.
Her entire body was wrapped in white bandages like a mummy. She looked so frightening that the moment Bennett walked in with the baby in his arms, the child burst into loud sobs.
Bennett had Mia take the baby outside, and only then did the crying fade a little.
“You’re awake?”
Claire did not answer him.
Bennett sighed, sounding somewhat helpless. “Are you angry? It was an accident. No one expected the room to suddenly catch fire.”
Claire still said nothing, because she knew it had not been an accident.
It was attempted murder.
Bennett was the one who had done it to her.
If he had not locked her in the bedroom, she could have escaped as soon as the fire started. She would never have ended up lying in bed now, unable to move.
But Bennett did not see it that way. He only thought Claire was stubborn, unreasonable, and impossible to talk to.
So after offering a few perfunctory words of comfort, he lost patience.
“The baby cries as soon as he sees you, and you’re not in any condition to move around. So don’t come to tomorrow night’s family gala.”
Claire’s pupils trembled slightly.
She had waited a long time for the Ford family’s once-every-five-years family banquet.
It was the most important gathering in the entire Ford family.
Every prominent Ford in the country, anyone with a name, status, and influence, would attend.
Being seen at that dinner meant being truly acknowledged by the Ford family.
Claire had married Bennett four years ago, which meant she had just missed the last gala.
Back then, Bennett had promised her without hesitation, “Claire, at the gala four years from now, I’ll announce to everyone that you are the only wife I will ever have.”
“I’ll make sure everyone knows you belong only to me.”
And now, he said so casually, “Don’t come.”
Claire’s fingers trembled, and even her breathing grew sharp.
In the end, she said nothing.
She merely turned her back to him, calmly closed her eyes, and let two silent streams of tears slide down her face.
The next evening, the Ford family’s grand family banquet began, and even the nurses at the hospital were watching the livestream.
“I heard the Ford family has its next heir now.”
“Seriously? I thought Bennett Ford’s wife couldn’t have children.”
“It’s true. Apparently, he’s an illegitimate child. Bennett even brought the other woman to the family banquet today.”
“That’s depressing. When Mrs. Ford had her accident, everyone thought the Ford family would kick her to the
curb. Instead, Bennett publicly announced that he would never divorce her. He even lit up the skyline for three days and nights with fireworks spelling out that Bennett loved only Claire. And now…”
“Claire?”
The two nurses’ gazes instinctively landed on the nameplate beside Claire’s bed. They fell silent at once when they saw the name Claire Snow.
“S-Sorry, Mrs. Ford. We didn’t mean to.”
“It’s fine.” Claire smiled calmly. “I won’t be Mrs. Ford for much longer anyway.”
With a sharp creak, the door was shoved open by Bennett.
His dark, vicious gaze fixed on her, and he spoke through gritted teeth. “Claire, what did you just say?”
He clamped his hand around Claire’s wrist and yanked her off the bed.
“I thought you had finally understood. And this is what you do?”
“You’re still trying to threaten me with divorce?”
Claire’s lips trembled. Her voice was so hoarse it was almost impossible to hear. “What exactly am I supposed to understand?”
“You want me to accept that child, don’t you? What if I say I’ll never accept him for as long as I live?”
“Bennett, how do you expect me to accept the son of your mistress-”
Claire’s reason snapped back into place, and she stopped abruptly.
But Bennett laughed with bitter mockery.
“Go on. Why did you stop?”
“Keep saying it. Say you can’t accept the son of my mistress.”
“Say you can’t accept the illegitimate son Mia and I had together.”
